“Honouring Our Elders, Inspiring Our Youth – From Roots to Horizons”
On Sunday, 14th September 2025, history was made at Ramgarhia Hall in Leicester, where more than 900 members of our community came together for the AMSUK/YF Heritage, Culture & Community (HCC) Event. What began as small Chai & Chat gatherings grew into a landmark celebration – a day filled with pride, remembrance, and inspiration that will be remembered for years to come.
The event was a heartfelt tribute to our elders – the first generation who left behind their homes in India and Africa to build new lives in the United Kingdom. With courage, sacrifice, and resilience, they overcame immense challenges in unfamiliar lands with limited resources and uncertain futures. They worked tirelessly not only for themselves but also for their children and grandchildren. Today, because of their vision and perseverance, we stand strong: educated, accomplished, and firmly rooted in our heritage and community. Their story is our inheritance, and their spirit continues to guide us.
The day’s programme was a vibrant celebration of culture and unity, featuring cultural performances, intergenerational tributes, a “Wall of Celebration,” and a striking historical timeline. The voices of our elders were brought to life through a moving video screening and our special souvenir publication, From Roots to Horizons: A Tribute to Our Elders. This keepsake preserves stories of migration, perseverance, and triumph – a living history ensuring that future generations will always remember where they came from and the shoulders on which they stand.
We extend our warmest congratulations and deepest gratitude to the AMSUK Youth Forum HCC Team, led with vision by Nailesh, whose dedication and creativity turned this vision into reality. Our sincere thanks also go to the volunteers of Shree Mandhata Sahayak Mandal, Leicester, under the leadership of Ramanbhai, for providing catering, and to the many AMSUK and Youth Forum volunteers whose hard work made this event possible.
This celebration was not only about honouring the past but also about inspiring the future.
To our youth: As you look forward with ambition and opportunity, never forget the roots that ground you. Honour the sacrifices that paved your path and carry forward the timeless values of unity, respect, and seva (selfless service). These values are our strength, our compass, and our greatest gift to the future.
To our elders: On behalf of AMSUK, the Youth Forum, and our entire Samaj, we say with deepest respect – we honour you, we thank you, and we will never forget you.
This event truly bridged generations, reminding us that our past is not a distant memory but the foundation of our future. As one family – strong in heritage, rich in culture, and united in community – may we continue to walk together with pride, gratitude, and inspiration.
Jai Shree Ram. Jai Shree Krishna. Jai Mandhata Samaj.
