Why We Need Your Help?

Recently, I was told, “Now you realize how challenging it is to be a lead/chair/president.” The expectation was for me to agree, but my response was quite the opposite. To me, what I do seems effortless.

Perhaps you’re surprised by my perspective. “Ah, but that’s because of the team you have,” someone might say. Undoubtedly, having an exceptional team makes my role much smoother. Our team comprises individuals who generously volunteer their time and efforts for the betterment of our community. We’re not perfect, and we don’t claim to be. That’s why we actively seek feedback and constructive criticism to continually improve and learn.

While we may lack certain skills and experiences, we excel in organization and communication. Many of us have previous or current roles in local committees, and our approach differs slightly. Whether it’s better or not is subjective, but it undeniably works for us.

Let’s be clear: our families, work, and personal commitments come first. The Youth Forum is important, but we’re upfront about our availability. We prioritize communication within our team, ensuring that if someone can’t complete a task, we find alternatives. This is what being part of a team is about.

Yes, we are volunteers, but we don’t hide behind that label. From the start, we understood that our impact relies on the support and engagement of our town and community. Without your involvement, our efforts would be in vain.

It’s essential to acknowledge the reality. How many town committees genuinely support our initiatives? How many can honestly say they’ve done all they can for us and their communities? Support isn’t just a word; it requires action. It’s easy to claim support, but actions speak louder than words.

Of course, some towns actively support us, evident in their representation at our events. However, others show minimal engagement or none. This speaks volumes. We provide ample information well in advance of our events, aiming to reach as many people as possible. Yet, some towns fail to distribute this information, offering excuses instead.

Ultimately, it’s about acting in the best interests of your community. Are you fulfilling your elected role to the best of your ability, or are you merely serving your own interests under the guise of volunteerism?

We can’t change the past, but it’s not too late to make a difference. So, what do we need from you?

  • Distribute our information.
  • Promote our events as if they were your own.
  • Grant us access to your AGMs and local events.
  • Respond to our requests for information.

By supporting us, you’re supporting your local community. The Youth Forum relies on you. Together, we are stronger.

Here’s why the Youth Forum needs the support of communities:

  1. Increased Impact: With the support of local communities, the Youth Forum’s initiatives and events can reach a wider audience, maximizing their impact and effectiveness in serving the community.
  2. Recognition: When local communities actively promote and participate in Youth Forum activities, it validates the importance and relevance of the forum’s goals and objectives. It also provides recognition for the efforts of the forum’s members.
  3. Resource Sharing: Collaboration with local towns and communities opens opportunities for resource sharing. This can include access to venues for events, promotion through local channels, and in-kind support.
  4. Community Representation: By actively involving various towns and communities, the Youth Forum ensures that its activities and initiatives are representative of the diverse needs and interests of the broader community.
  5. Sustainability: Sustainable community support ensures the continuity of the Youth Forum’s efforts. When communities are invested in the forum’s success, they are more likely to continue supporting its initiatives over time.
